The topic says it all. Most of you praise original host Richard Dawson like he's a God, but pick on and insult Louie Anderson like he's Pat Bullard. So that brings me to the question of, What made him suck that much?
I honestly thought he was hilarious because of his voice, weight, and the infamous butt scratch. I'd love to know how Richard Karn did better than him, but I know the reason for why Anderson was fired was because he was becoming bored with the show in late 2001. Although it made no sense to fire him just for that for someone who only belonged on Home Improvement.

I used to watch Louie's stand-up comedy specials growing up, and enjoyed his "Life with Louie" cartoon very much in the mid-90's. I don't think he was inept at doing television by any means. I just think his gradual lack of enthusiasm, while on the Feud, showed that game show hosting wasn't what he thought it would be. Personally, I think his first season of hosting wasn't bad at all, because he seemed to show a degree of excitement and appreciation on the show that slowly declined. I think the "Louie-isms" (gravely-voice & lax nature) increased as his interest seemed to decrease, and I think those behaviors really soured the show towards the end of his run. ...but I know the reason for why Anderson was fired was because he was becoming bored with the show in late 2001. I'm sure the "boredom" had a good part in it, but was that the sole reason he was let go? I thought the fact that his liaison with that Las Vegas man in the 90's (for naughty reasons) being brought into the national spotlight (by that man himself) in the early 2000's had a big part in his leaving the show too, no?

That whole thing ended in 2000, during Anderson's end of the 1st season or start of the 2nd season. The guy was arrested for informing the law about it, but I'm not gonna get into details. With Anderson being the victim in that situation and the fact that it was little into his run of the Family Feud, I still believe it was only because of his bored attitude late in the run and sketches mocking and making fun of him by MadTV.

Could someone post on youtube the last CBS taping of Feud and Anderson's last show? I remember Anderson in his last first-run show, was in a very bad mood. He got snappy going "You've gotta listen to the questions!!!" I do have Anderson's last but can't yet post it. I don't even have a DVD recorder yet.

Well I've got to admit, I thought it wasn't Louie's fault for some of those comments because there are and were game show contestants that sucked. Who can tell you? Richard Dawson, the month of September, a frog, and an alligator.

... what? "Just trying to make the viewer feel at home!" I have a small soft spot for this version, because... as dumb as it sounds, it's the first game show I ever got really into, and got me into game shows in the first place. However, Louie just wasn't that good. He always sounded bored out of his skull (I mean, I understand that that's his stand-up act, but at least act like you're interested) and then there were the numerous times in Fast Money where he'd bumble a question and have to repeat himself... wasting seconds of time. Looking back on it, he just wasn't good at all.

Anderson was okay, but I don't think he had the right voice for such a show like this.
